About Bina the Musical
What is the plot?
The story follows two sisters, Bina and Aliyah, in the world of the Book of Mormon during the life of Alma the Younger and the Sons of Mosiah. Through their eyes, we witness struggles for faith and revelation in their deeply personal journeys: a rebel becomes a prophet, one content in simple obedience learns humility and confidence in uncertainty, and one who never believed becomes a martyr.
Why this project
The name Bina means “understanding” or “insight”—a central theme of this story. Modern musical influences and original female characters make this scriptural narrative more accessible and resonant for today’s audiences. Music has the power to help us feel things our minds might resist. That’s especially important when grappling with questions of faith, tradition, and personal revelation. Bina invites us to consider questions with our hearts open to our neighbors with different lived experiences and open to God.
What is the music style?
Bina is a blend of modern musical theatre, hip-hop, and cinematic pop. The music moves between rhythmic intensity and emotional vulnerability—fast-paced verses, haunting piano motifs, soulful melodies, and layered harmonies that echo the spiritual tension of the story.
