About Bina the Musical

What is this?

Alma goes by Junior, the preaching scenes are done in slam poetry, and the main characters are female. This musical reimagines the Book of Alma through a modern lens, blending ancient narrative with the emotional immediacy of cinematic pop. At its center are two sisters navigating the tensions between certainty and complexity, tradition and truth, belief and lived experience.

The show reframes scripture not as a relic but as a mirror. Their world looks ancient, but they speak, sing, and struggle like people you know–all while rebellions spark, kings fall, and spiritual awakenings reshape their community. Ultimately, it becomes a story about the courage it takes to question, to stay, to leave, and to love.

Who's Producing This Thing?

I’m Kira Gatiuan, a senior at BYU studying Supply Chain Management. I’m passionate about storytelling, music, and the connection that comes from creating and sharing them with others.
Bina actually began during a long drive to a summer internship. Listening to the Book of Mormon made me sleepy, but the Hamilton soundtrack kept me wide awake. So, I decided to try writing a few energetic songs based on those same stories—and the rest is history.
What matters most to me about Bina now is how it brings together faith, feminism, and music to explore what happens when belief is both beautiful and broken. I hope people leave this show feeling seen, stretched, and closer to God.
